There are no “reasonable grounds” to charge Ontario Provincial Police officers after they discovered a man who had taken his own life near Hawkesbury last May, the province’s police watchdog said Thursday.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit was investigating the death of a 41-year-old man in St-Bernardin, near Hawkesbury, on May 13, 2016.

The agency said Hawkesbury OPP were called to Concession Road 8 in Nation Township Friday responding to reports of a man in distress.

When officers with Hawkesbury OPP and the force’s tactical response unit arrived and entered “a structure” on the property, they found the man dead.

The SIU was notified by the OPP and invoked its mandate. The SIU investigates when police are involved in incidents that result in a serious injury or death.
