Arms outstretched, they staggered through the streets of Almonte on Saturday afternoon as foreboding clouds pressed down on them from above, the living, breathing, costumed undead shuffling along for a good cause.
It was a gory scene on the streets of the picturesque town some 50 kilometres west of Ottawa, but the day was brightened by the fact the rains didn’t come to wash all that fake blood away, and the third annual Almonte Zombie Walk For Hunger was able to go ahead as scheduled.
About 40 took part in this year’s event, which collected food for the Lanark County Food Bank and raised money for Soi Dog Canada and the Country Cat Sanctuary.
Participants covered just under two kilometres on the main streets of town, finishing the route at about 4 p.m.
Four-and-a-half-year-old Penelope Puddington was in full zombie mode during the walk.
