Incumbent Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin has a big lead over all challengers in the race to be mayor of Gatineau, according to a new poll.
Pedneaud-Jobin, who has served one term as mayor, has the support of 53 per cent of decided voters, according to the poll commissioned by Le Droit newspaper and radio station 104.7 Outaouais.
While nearly half the decided voters say they would vote against him, this opposition is spread among four challengers, and Pedneaud-Jobin leads each of these individually by a margin of more than two to one.
Denis Tassé is in second with 23.9 per cent; Sylvie Goneau has 13.7 per cent, and Rémi Bergeron and Clément Bélanger each have 4.7 per cent.
Tassé and Goneau are both councillors in the outgoing council.
While these are the figures among decided voters, the poll notes that 21.4 per cent of respondents are undecided.
The poll conducted by Segma Research contacted 654 adults between Oct. 10 and 14. The polling company says results on this scale are accurate plus or minus 3.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
Election day is Nov. 5.
