Gatineau police are releasing a clue found at the scene of a July hit-and-run in hopes of finding the motorist who left a cyclist, a man in his 40s, lying on the ground with serious leg injuries.

Investigators arrested a woman hours after the July 11 crash on Maloney Boulevard East and charged her with impaired driving but ruled out her involvement in the incident.

Now they’ve released a photo of fog light trim found at the crash scene in hopes it will lead to the suspect vehicle.

A passerby called police to the scene between Balsam and Elm streets at about 2:15 a.m. after fining the victim badly hurt.

Investigators, who shut down the street for hours, recovered a window washer pump, the contour of a fog lamp, a piece of silver plastic and rivets. The debris makes them believe that the suspect vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger side, including to the washer fluid reservoir given the large amount of washer fluid that leaked onto the roadway.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone with information is asked to call 819 243-4636, option 5.
