Ottawa police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old man with child pornography-related offences after a police investigation allegedly linked the man to questionable content online.
Police said they launched an investigation into the man in September using an online peer-to-peer (P2P) network which is known to have users that share illicit computer files, including images and videos, of child pornography.
While looking into the P2P network, investigators identified a computer’s IP address located in the Ottawa area which was allegedly sharing files of prepubescent children being sexually abused.
As a result, police obtained a search warrant which was used to raid a home in the Centretown area on Tuesday. Computers at the home were examined and police allegedly found thousands of images and videos detailing child pornography.
Brent Baxter, 40, of Ottawa, is charged with one count of making child pornography available, two counts of possessing child pornography and one count of accessing child pornography.
He is expected to appear in an Ottawa courtroom on Thursday.
