Shooter’s Bar & Grill in Calabogie, which was shut down three days after a fatal car crash on Calabogie Road, has filed an appeal of its licence suspension.

The appeal was delivered to the Licence Appeal Tribunal, which is an adjudicative tribunal independent of the Alchohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). A public hearing will be held in Ottawa, though the date has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, the restaurant/bar has re-opened, although it is unable to serve alcohol while the suspension remains in place. The bar and grill is advertising Riq Turner Unplugged as a musical presentation Nov. 12.

The suspension notice posted on the premises after the crash said the suspension went into effect Oct. 30. The AGCO cited seven alleged infractions, including serving minors on the premises.

All four occupants of the Oct. 27 crash were believed to have been at Shooter’s prior to the single-vehicle accident near Burnstown. Brandon Hanniman, the driver of the car, and Alex Paquette both died from their injuries. Jake McGrimmon and Ben Scheuneman suffered injuries and Scheuneman remains in an Ottawa hospital.

Each of the boys was 18 at the time of the accident. All played for the Renfrew Timberwolves, a Tier 2 CCHL team.

The commission made it clear the suspension arose out of the OPP investigation into the crash. Police have determined alcohol was a factor in the late night crash.
