Ottawa police have charged an Ottawa man with weapons offences after he pulled out what initially appeared to be a handgun during an altercation in the Glebe.
Officers reported to a call early afternoon on Tuesday, about a man “in distress” and causing a disturbance. Police said the man was initially co-operative, but grew agitated and then pulled out an apparent handgun.
After a gunpoint arrest and an attempt to de-escalate the situation, police were able to get the suspect to submit his weapon. Upon examination, it was determined the weapon was a pellet gun.
Serge Lafrance, 48, of Ottawa faces a series of charges including possession of a weapon, failure to comply and carrying a concealed weapon.
Lafrance made his first court appearance Wednesday.
