Police have arrested a 46-year-old Gatineau resident who was allegedly in possession of nearly 10,000 pornography digital files.
Police said Tuesday the investigation began after a girl confessed to her mother that a man had touched her inappropriately.
The searches that followed led police to discover nearly 10,000 digital photographs and more than 400 videos exposing various children, including the victim.
Police said the accused knew the victim and the alleged assaults took place over a one-year period.
The accused’s identity was withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
The investigation is continuing to determine the origin of the other child pornography files and to try to identify other potential victims. Other charges may be filed.
Gatineau police arrested the man last Thursday and appeared in court that day.
He faces charges of sexual contact, production of child pornography, possession of child pornography and making sexually explicit materials available to a child.
He remains in custody.
