Ottawa police have charged a Gatineau man and a girl in her teens in relation to an investigation into human trafficking.
Police said they were approached in September by a young woman who made claims about a human trafficking ring that was recruiting girls under the age of 18 and then using them for prostitution.
Police said an investigation into the claims led to the arrests.
Jean-François Darilus, 27, of Gatineau, is charged with advertising another person’s sexual services, trafficking in persons under the age of 18 and financially benefiting from a person under 18 by exercising control.
The teenaged girl who was also arrested cannot be identified because she is a minor. She is charged with trafficking in persons under the age of 18 and recruiting persons under the age of 18 for the purpose of trafficking.
The two were to appear in an Ottawa area court on Thursday.
An investigation into the allegations is ongoing and police believe there could be more victims.
