Police are asking motorists to avoid St. Laurent Boulevard and Belfast Road where a pedestrian was critically injured by a car in one of two crashes at the same intersection Tuesday morning.

The southbound lanes of St. Laurent were closed to traffic.

Paramedics said that the woman in her 50s was taken to the local trauma centre after the 7:05 a.m. crash. She suffered head and chest injuries and a fractured femur.

Police said that the vehicle that struck her remained on the scene and officers were directing traffic as investigators worked.
