Your guide to getting around town during the Grey Cup Festival

Ottawa welcomes the nation this week as football fans from coast to coast gather here for the Grey Cup Festival, November 23 to 26. Festival events are taking place downtown and at Lansdowne.

If you are going to the Grey Cup Festival, plan your trip by reviewing the schedule of traffic impacts listed on ottawa.ca. Wherever you are going during the Grey Cup Festival, plan ahead, arrive early and expect traffic delays.

Fly-past and Skyhawks

Two fly-pasts of two CF-18 aircraft will take place over TD Stadium at the start of the Grey Cup Game on Sunday, November 26. They will fly-past at 6:34 and 6:38 p.m.

The SkyHawks Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team will execute three landings on the Great Lawn of Lansdowne during the Grey Cup Festival:

  • Thursday, November 23 at 2 p.m.
  • Friday, November 24 at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Ticket to ride

For Grey Cup Game ticket holders, your ticket is your unlimited pass to free transit from Wednesday, November 22, to Monday, November 27. Just show your printed or e-ticket to the operator. Para Transpo fares are also included in your event ticket price; please book your trip as normal. Shuttle Service - November 23 to 25

Grey Cup Festival shuttle service is free of charge for everyone, with no tickets required, and will take you between three locations:

  • Lansdowne (shuttle loop behind Aberdeen Pavilion)
  • Shaw Centre (Daly Avenue entrance)
  • Downtown (Kent Street north of Albert Street)

Bus shuttles run every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to midnight. from Thursday, November 23, to Saturday, November 25.

Game Day shuttles (November 26)

As on RedBlacks game days throughout the football season, there are two shuttle options you can take to get to the big game.

  • OC Transpo Park and Rides
    • All 450-series routes will be in service starting at 2 p.m. (four hours prior to kickoff)
    • The 450-series service will be provided for two hours after the end of the game
  • Special event (yellow bus) shuttles departing from
    • Canada Post
    • Vincent Massey Park
    • City Hall

Game Day road closures (November 26)

Traffic will be very slow around Lansdowne before and after the game. Come down and enjoy yourself but expect delays. If you are not going to the Grey Cup Game or festivities on Sunday, please try to avoid the area.

  • Bank Street will be closed to all vehicles and bicycles between Sunnyside Drive and Fifth Avenue between 2 p.m. and midnight. pedestrians only will be permitted at this time. Cyclists will have to dismount and walk their bikes through the closure zone.
  • Queen Elizabeth Drive will be closed between Preston Street and Somerset Street between 9 p.m. and midnight.
  • Monk Street will be closed to all vehicles and bicycles between 2 p.m. and midnight.

Parking Prohibited (November 26):

  • Bank Street from Chamberlain Avenue to Riverdale Avenue;
  • Monk Street from Fifth Avenue to Wilton Crescent;
  • Fifth Avenue from Lyon Street South to O’Connor Street; and,
  • Lisgar Street from Elgin Street to easterly end.

Cycling on Game Day (November 26)

You can take your bike to the Grey Cup Game, but review road closures and parking information before you go. Due to site modifications within TD Place at Lansdowne, the existing bike racks will not be accessible on November 26. Bike parking is available in two locations nearby:

  • Sunnyside Library (1049 Bank street)
  • Silvia Holden Park (65 O’Connor Street)

Security

Ottawa Police advise that there will be an increase in police presence in Ottawa due to the Grey Cup Festival. Residents and visitors are reminded that if you see something suspicious, report it to a police officer.

Sometimes emergency responders are needed in large crowds. If this happens, please move out of the way and follow their instructions.

Have a game plan for a safe ride home. Celebrate responsibly and don’t drive impaired by drugs or alcohol.
