学生:顶礼上师,我的问题是:有时候明知道自己说的话可能会造口业,但还是忍不住,怎样才能控制自己?
上师达真堪布开示:对一个初学者来说这是一种正常的现象,没有什么,慢慢就好了。佛讲了四种造业或犯戒的原因,一个是不明理,然后犯戒;二是虽然明理,但是还没有真正深信,所以犯错;三是虽然也明理、深信、精进,但是烦恼生起来了,可能就控制不住,然后犯错误、犯戒、造业。
所谓的烦恼就是嗔恨心一下上来了很难对治,贪心一下上来就很难控制。贪心是缓慢性的,慢慢地就陷进去了,很难自拔。而嗔恨心是突发性的,可能一下就生起来了,有些人一生起嗔恨心就杀人、放火。烦恼我们很难控制,所以犯错误、犯戒、造业;
最后一种就是习气,习气是在不知不觉当中犯错误、犯戒,这是无始劫的一种串习,也可以说是一种习惯,习惯性地犯错误、造业、犯戒,过后才发现。佛讲了犯戒、造业的四种原因。所以说虽然你知道或深信造业不好、不能造业。但是有时候烦恼生起来了,可能就会恶口骂人;有时候习气上来了,可能就说一些绮语、恶语、妄语,这是正常的。若是你有想改的决心,慢慢就好了,就不会再犯这种错误了。

Pay homage to the Guru, my question is that sometimes, although I clearly know that my words are likely to create speech karma, I cannot help doing it. How can I control myself?
Teachings from the Guru: it is a common situation for a beginner, and you will be better gradually. Buddha instructs us four reasons of creating bad karma and breaking precepts. The first one is that someone doesn’t understand the truths and then break the precepts. The second is that despite having some understanding, lack of truly deep belief leads to the creation of mistakes. The third is that despite having understanding, deep faith, and diligence, when vexations arise, it is unlikely to control, and then makes mistakes, break the precepts and create the bad karma.
The so-called vexation means that once the hatred arises, it is difficult to tame it; and once the greed arises, it is hard to control it. The greed is so chronic to trap people gradually, and make them hard to escape. However, the hatred is accidental, and maybe arises at one blow. When some people generate hatred, they may kill people or set fire. It is very difficult to control our vexations, so we make mistakes, break the precepts and make bad karma.
The last is bad habitual tendencies. Having been strengthening since the beginningless kalpa, such habits make people unconsciously make mistakes and break the precepts. Or you can say it is a habit for people to make mistakes, create bad karma and break the precepts, and later discover what they have done. Buddha instructs us these four reasons to break the precepts and create bad karma. So although you know or deeply believe that it is not beneficial for you to create bad karma and you should not do this, sometimes when vexations arise, it is possible for you to use harsh speech to swear at others, and sometimes when bad habits arise, it is common for you to say some frivolous speech, harsh speech or lying. If you have determination to correct these, you will gradually feel better and never make such mistakes.
