The OPP is warning the public about a scam involving telephone callers posing as police officers to solicit money for teddy bears.

The Killaloe OPP say several area detachments have received calls from concerned citizens asking about “police-related organizations” calling to solicit monies for teddy bears.

Police advise that it does not solicit money from the public for the Community Bear Program or any other OPP program.

They are asking citizens to verify the legitimacy of any organization that calls to ask for monies. For more information on frauds and scams visit www.opp.ca or call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 to make a report.

If you have information on any criminal offence that results in charges being laid, you qualify for an award of up to $2000. Call Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 613-735-8477 or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or visit the website www.valleytips.ca.
