Firefighters were called to a two-alarm blaze in a Jasmine Crescent apartment building late Wednesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Service reported at 11 a.m. that crews were on their way to 1993 Jasmine Cres. near Ogilvie Road after a fire apparently began in a bathroom ceiling fan.

Upon arrival, they found smoke and visible flames in one unit and declared a working fire that escalated to a second alarm.

Firefighters evacuated residents from all four floors as the fire apparently spread up to the higher levels.

There were no immediate estimates of the number of people cleared out. OC Transpo sent buses to the scene to shelter the evacuees.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Traffic was diverted from the area.
