The Ottawa police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspicious man after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted in the Powell Avenue and Glendale Avenue area after answering her door.
Investigators say there have been a small number of reports in the area in the past month of a man seeking to gain access by knocking on doors in the evening and night. The man introduced himself as a possible neighbour in an attempt to get the occupant to open the door.
On or around Nov. 9, the suspect gained access to the woman’s home. Once inside, he overpowered and sexually assaulted her. The suspect was described as a Middle Eastern man about 45 years old, about five feet, seven inches tall, with a pot belly. He spoke English.
The residents in the other cases did not open their doors and did not have a description of the man.
Police say any information about a suspicious person or persons or vehicles should be relayed to the Ottawa police’s sexual assault and child abuse unit at 613-236-1222, ext.5760.
