On the picturesque grounds of the Canadian Museum of History Monday, there was sight never before seen: a series of seven teepees, illuminated with colour and shining brightly against the backdrop of Parliament.

The teepee lighting marked the launch of an event that will close out a year of Canada 150 celebrations: Nimidiwin, A celebration of our Dance from Coast to Coast to Coast. The New Year’s Eve event will be held at the Canadian Museum of History, and will feature Indigenous throat singers, dancers, and drummers.

The teepees, which represent the seven generations and the seven sacred Indigenous teachings, will be lit every evening until the event, making the final 28 days of 2017 a little brighter.
