Republican Roy Moore, the twice-ousted former Alabama chief justice, will try to convince voters to elect him despite multiple women’s claims of sexual assault and that he pursued sexual relationships with them while they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. In a state that President Donald Trump won by nearly 28 percentage points, Moore campaigns on his strident opposition to LGBT rights, calls Islam a "false religion" and embraces Christian theocratic principles. Moore won the Republican primary and primary runoff against appointed Sen. Luther Strange before the sexual allegations arose. Doug Jones, meanwhile, is a Democrat best known for prosecuting two Ku Klux Klan members for a Birmingham church bombing that killed four African-American girls. A flashpoint in the race has been abortion: Moore opposes and Jones supports abortion rights.
