One man is dead and a second was injured after a fire in an apartment on Heatherington Road overnight.
Firefighters were called to the highrise building at 1455 Heatherington Rd near the intersection of Walkley and Albion roads at 2:09 a.m.
They found smoke in unit 516 and declared a working fire at 2:19 a.m.
Firefighters removed two men from a fifth-floor unit. One was declared dead; a second was treated for injuries at the scene.
None of the other units in the building were damaged in the fire and other residents were able to return to their homes.
The fire was deemed under control three minutes later and damage stopped at 2:33 a.m., fire officials said.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator is on the scene assessing the damage and determining the cause.
An Ontario Fire Marshal’s investigator is also en route.
Police reported that they’re holding the scene but that it hasn’t yet been determined whether there will be a criminal investigation.
