Canada’s capital city plays host to the 2017 Scotiabank NHL 100 Classic when the Ottawa Senators go head-to-head against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
The public can score big at various festivities happening this week across the city before and after the puck drops at Lansdowne Park.
An NHL alumni game, an official tailgate party, and Stanley Cup viewings are all part of the events leading up to the outdoor game. If you don’t have tickets to the NHL 100 Classic, then don’t miss the free live viewing party on Parliament Hill.
This year’s heritage classic is celebrating the centennial anniversary of the league’s first games played on Dec. 19, 1917.
This newspaper brings you the full line-up of events. But first, here are some tips:
-Bundle up! Environment Canada is calling for temperatures hovering in the negative double-digit range leading up to the weekend, with the weather expected to warm up slightly Saturday.
-Free public transit is provided for heritage classic ticket holders three hours before and after each game.
-Parking nearby the Hill does not come cheap or easy. Randy Watt, Bell Sensplex director of operations, suggested: Find a parkade. Look for cheap parking at Ottawa City Hall. Free weekend parking is available at the World Exchange Plaza, or on the downtown streets after 6 p.m.
-In the lead up to the NHL 100 Classic, each rival team will get to practice on the outdoor rink at Lansdowne Park. Practices will be closed to the public.
NHL Centennial Fan Arena
