A pedestrian is in serious condition after being struck and dragged by a school bus Thursday afternoon as she crossed Woodroffe Avenue.
Witnesses said the woman was crossing with the light when the yellow school bus, westbound on Iris Street, turned north onto Woodroffe and “sideswiped” the pedestrian before she could reach the sidewalk.
She fell under the bus and was dragged for a few feet as her clothing became entangled with the bus, paramedics said.
The woman, in her late 60s, sustained chest and abdominal injuries, but was conscious throughout the incident.
She was treated at the scene and taken to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus in serious condition. The schoolchildren on the bus were unharmed.
Ottawa police temporarily closed the intersection to conduct a collision investigation.
