OC Transpo expands service to growing communities and makes winter service adjustments

Starting Sunday, December 24, OC Transpo’s winter service will come into effect. Many of the changes happening this winter will improve service in growing communities.

Expanded Service to Growing Communities

Kanata, Stittsville and Ottawa West

  • The frequency of service on Routes 63 and 64 will be increased to every 12 minutes during the busiest hour of the morning eastbound and afternoon westbound.
  • The hours of service on Route 167 will be extended to approximately 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the northbound direction, and from approximately 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the southbound direction. The route will also be modified to serve the Abbottsville Crossing and Blackstone communities via Westphalian Avenue, Rouncey Road and Abbott Road. This change will reduce walking distances for customers.
  • Route 252 will be extended to serve the Blackstone community via Hope Side Road and Cope Drive, and the frequency of service will be increased to every 15 to 20 minutes. The route will also be modified in Bells Corners and will operate north on Moodie Drive to join the new West Transitway Extension at Moodie Station.
  • Route 256 will be extended to serve Bridlewood Trails via Akerson Road to reduce walking distances for customers. The route will also be modified between Bells Corners and the Transitway to serve Old Richmond Road east of Moodie Drive and to serve Robertson Road. The route will no longer serve Bayshore Station in the morning.

Barrhaven, Riverside South and Ottawa South

  • Route 95 will be extended to Minto Recreation Complex in Half Moon Bay via River Mist Road to replace Route 177. The frequency of service along the new section of Route 95 (former Route 177) will be increased to every 15 minutes during peak periods, to downtown in the morning and from downtown in the afternoon.
  • Route 177 will be replaced by Route 95.Route 277 will be split into two routes (Routes 277 and 278) to provide faster travel times for customers.
  • Route 277 will be shortened to start and end at Nepean Woods Station. The frequency of service during the busiest hour in the morning and afternoon will be adjusted to operate every 12 minutes. New Connexion Route 278 will operate between Earl Armstrong Road and Limebank Road and downtown, replacing Route 277 along Cresthaven Drive and Leikin Drive. Service will operate every 15 minutes during the busiest hour in the morning and afternoon.
  • New Connexion Route 294 will provide faster travel times for customers traveling from Barrett Lands, Deerfield Village and Findlay Creek to Hurdman Station. Service will operate every 30 minutes during peak periods.

Wateridge

  • New Local Route 17 will provide peak period service between the Wateridge community (former CFB Rockcliffe) and the Rideau Centre, every 30 minutes.
  • New Local Route 27 will provide peak period service between the Wateridge community (former CFB Rockcliffe) and St-Laurent Station via Cummings Avenue, every 30 minutes.

Orléans

  • Route 136 will be replaced by Route 234 and new Connexion Route 236. The school trip on Route 136 serving Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School will be renumbered as School Route 636.
  • Route 221 will be modified to serve Cardinal Creek Village via Famille-Laporte Avenue and Cardinal Creek Drive.
  • New Connexion Route 225 will provide peak period service from Trailsedge and Summerside West in Chapel Hill South to Blair Station, every 20 minutes.
  • Route 234 will be extended to start in Avalon South (Minto Encore and Chaperal communities) and will replace a section of Route 136 on Tenth Line Road.
  • Route 235 will be split into two routes to provide faster travel times for customers. Route 235 will be shortened to serve Fallingbrook and will replace part of Route 234 on Gardenway Drive.
  • New Connexion Route 236 will replace Route 235 south of Innes Road and a section of Route 136 on Tenth Line Road.

West Transitway Extension and Moodie Station

On December 17, the West Transitway Extension will open to improve the reliability of service between downtown and Carling Campus. Starting on Sunday, most routes that currently travel on Highway 417 between Moodie Drive and Holly Acres Road will operate along the dedicated Transitway and will serve the new Moodie Station.

On December 24, Routes 66 and 152 will be modified to reduce travel times for customers travelling to and from Carling Campus. Route 66 will operate along the West Transitway extension and will no longer operate along Corkstown Road and through the Abbott Point of Care campus. Instead, Route 152 will be extended to Moodie Station via the Abbott Point of Care facility.

New Route Numbers, Same Route

Two bus routes will be renumbered as part of the transition to the 2018 transit network. These routes will have new numbers, but the routes will remain the same.

  • Route 159 will be renumbered as Local Route 54
  • Route 189 will be renumbered as Local Route 198

Other Service Adjustments

  • New Route 45 will provide direct, peak period service between Hurdman Station and the Ottawa Hospital General Campus using the newly-opened Alta Vista Hospital Link Road. Route 45 replaces the extra peak period trips that operate on Route 106.
  • Confederation Station, on O-Train Line 2, the Trillium Line, will be renamed as Mooney’s Bay Station.
  • In early 2018, the Chapman Mills Transitway will be extended from Beatrice Station to Longfields Drive to provide more reliable travel times on Routes 99 and 406.

Seasonal schedule adjustments will also go into effect on December 24. Customers should visit octranspo.com and use the new travel planner to see if their normal trips are affected.

Paper tickets no longer sold

Paper tickets are no longer being sold. Customers are encouraged to use Presto e-purse or cash instead as it will cost the same, or less. On Para Transpo, use ParaPay or cash. At four O-Train stations, use the new ticket machines to buy single-ride tickets for immediate use. Old tickets can be used on the bus (except at Greenboro Station) until April 30, 2018. Customers can also exchange old tickets towards new fare products at OC Transpo Customer Service Centres until August 31, 2018.

Customers can get a Presto card by visiting an OC Transpo Customer Service Centre or City of Ottawa Client Service Centre, online at prestocard.ca or by calling 1-877-378-6123. Customers can also get a Presto card at the new ticket machines at Greenboro, Mooney’s Bay, Carleton or Carling O-Train stations.
