Ottawa Archbishop Terrence Prendergast will kick off the 2nd annual multi-faith blood drive Thursday with a donation of his own.

Ottawa’s Give Together, Live Together drive first came about a year ago, when Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities came together in a united show of support for the Canadian Blood Services’ Boxing Day blood drive, after a number of houses of worship in Ottawa had been vandalized.

This year’s event will take place over five days — Dec. 21 to 26, Christmas Day excluded — and include more faith communities. Canadian Blood Services hopes to attract 700 donors over the period. It takes place at the Canadian Blood Services’ clinic at 1575 Carling Ave., near Churchill, with single-day drives also being held at the Ottawa Christian School (Dec. 22), the Orléans Branch 632 of the Royal Canadian Legion (Dec. 24) and at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Kanata (Dec. 26).

Additionally, the national organization has put a call out for 35,000 donations across Canada by Jan. 6. Appointments can be booked by downloading the GiveBlood app, by calling 1-888-236-6283 or online at blood.ca.
