The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate to investigate OPP-involved shooting death in Morrisburg Saturday.
The SIU did not immediately provide details of the incident.
In a news release later Saturday, the OPP said only that “a member from the Morrisburg Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was involved in an altercation with an adult male outside of the Morrisburg OPP Detachment.”
“During the altercation the adult male sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer is being treated for undetermined injuries.”
The OPP would not provide further details, citing the SIU’s involvement.
The SIU investigates incidents involving police and civilians that involve serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
Morrisburg is 90 kilometres south of Ottawa.
