Organizers of Operation Red Nose in Gatineau are trying to entice more volunteers for the New Years Eve crush and are offering a chance at a Chicago shopping spree for people who sign up.
The Dec. 31 shift is the busiest of the year for the service that drives inebriated revellers home.
As an incentive to drum up interest, Red Nose is offering a a draw for a Windy City shopping spree for two, which will be given away to one volunteer Dec. 31. The package includes airfare, hotels and a tour of the Goose Island brewery (which is owned by Budweiser/Labatt brewer AB-InBev).
The organization, which hasn’t had a campaign on the Ottawa side for at least three years due to low levels of volunteer interest, relies on volunteers to offer its services.
Red Nose doesn’t charge for its services, but accepts donations. Since Dec. 1, the service has given more than 1,000 people a lift in Gatineau and collected $28,000 for a local sports group.
