A small fire in a hotel electrical system was quickly contained to a basement mechanical room early Sunday, fire officials said.
Fire crews were called to the downtown Capital Hill Hotel at 88 Albert St. at 5:13 a.m. after a 9-1-1 caller reported smoke in the basement.

The fire was brought under control within minutes of firefighters arriving. Crews then worked to ventilate the building, while Ottawa police and paramedics assisted on the scene.
Ottawa Fire officials said the cause of the fire was traced to an “electrical equipment malfunction” and damage had been contained to a telephone and network utility room. Damage estimates were placed at $95,000. No one was injured.
Officials said ventilation was completed, guests returned to their rooms and the hotel was operating normally.
