Ottawa awoke to -26 C and the forecast is for a gusty high of -12 C that will feel more like -36 with southwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40, Environment Canada predicts. The agency still has an extreme cold warning in effect.

Two to 4 cm of snow will have fallen by the time the mercury edges down to -16 C overnight.

For Wednesday, expect clouds and periods of snow beginning in the morning as the temperature edges up to -9 C. There’s a 60 per cent chance of overnight flurries and a low of -17 C.
