A mother and her young baby are recovering from smoke inhalation after a house fire in La Pêche early Tuesday.
MRC des Collines police say the fire broke out at about 7:15 a.m. in basement of a house on Townline Road.
The mother called 911 but was trapped in a second-storey bedroom with her four-month-old baby when police arrived. The officers found a ladder to reach the woman, smashed out the glass, then carried the two to safety.
Both were taken to hospital to be treated but were discharged later that day.
The fire started accidentally, police said.
