Another day, another “special weather statement.”

Environment Canada predicts another cold snap will arrive Thursday as a “bitterly cold” northwesterly flow forms over southern Ontario, sending wind chills below -30.

A southwesterly flow is expected to sweep away the cold by Sunday. Fingers crossed.

Bundle up.

Thursday’s forecast is for periods of light snow and northwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 as the temperature holds steady at -11 C.

Thursday night, the periods of light snow are expected to continue but westerly winds pick up to 30 km/h gusting to 50 and the mercury drops to -21 C with a wind chill of -34.

The Ottawa airport warned travellers that both Air Canada and WestJet had issued travel alerts as the Maritimes battens down the hatches for a major winter storm.

More light snow is in the forecast for Friday with northwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 and a steady temperature near -20 C that will feel more like -30, the weather agency predicts. The overnight low is -28 C.

Saturday’s forecast is for sunshine with a high of -22 C and low of -27 C.

Starting Sunday, watch for some warmer weather with a high of -10 C and low of -11 C along with likely flurries.

There’s a 70 per cent chance of snow and a predicted high of -3 C Monday and it stays balmy with a forecast low of -6 C.

Enjoy it while it lasts – the temperature is forecast to plunge back to a low of -18 C Tuesday night.
