And you thought it couldn’t get any worse.

The capital region’s Deep Freeze is expected to hit the lowest of the lows Saturday, with a “high” of only about -20 C.

Add in the winds of 30 kilometres an hour gusting to 50 km/h and you have a walking around “feels like” -40 situation on your hands (and face and ears).

The authorities have maintained their extreme cold warnings and frostbite alerts.

Saturday night is expected to see a low of -28 C, but the wind might be tapering off a little, meaning a windchill factor of “only” -36.

The weather office says we can expect “moderation” Sunday, but everything is relative.

The temperature is, indeed, expected to stagger upwards to a high of -11 C, But factor in strong winds and it leaves the “feels like” squarely in extreme cold warning territory about -36.

Oops! Forgot to mention the snow! Clouds are expected to increase through the day Sunday, bringing flurries that should leave two to three cm on the ground.

Snow should continue Sunday night, with a low of -11 C.

If it weren’t for the continued snow, Monday would look like a winner, with an expected high of -2 C and Monday night low of -5 C.

Temperatures are expected to seesaw through the rest of the week, with daytime highs ranging -5 C to -9 C, and night-time lows down to about -14 C to -17 C.

But the wind isn’t expected to be as much of a factor, so should be manageable for Polar Vortex veterans.
