After seeming to take forever, the Rideau Canal Skateway is moving full-speed ahead to a complete opening of the world’s largest skating rink.
The National Capital Commission has announced that two more kilometres of ice, from the Pretoria Bridge to Rideau Street (National Arts Centre) will be open for to skaters and visitors as of 8 a.m. Sunday.
The addition of the latest section means about seven kilometres of the 7.8 km landmark is open and leaves less than a kilometre of ice in the Skateway’s southern end still closed.
The last section will open as soon as ice conditions warrant, the NCC said in a release.
The Skateway’s 48th season officially kicked off Friday.
