A man in his 20s is in serious condition in the hospital Friday morning after suffering “critical” injuries to his left foot in an industrial accident overnight.
Paramedics report that they were called at 12:19 a.m. to Bantree Street in an industrial area near St. Laurent Boulevard and Innes Road.
The man’s foot was caught in a roller. His colleagues pulled him from the machine and used a belt as an improvised tourniquet to stem the bleeding.
Paramedics replaced the belt with what’s known as a combat-application tourniquet, dressed the foot and dosed him with morphine for the pain as they rushed him to the regional trauma centre.
His condition was stable Friday morning. Ottawa police and the province’s Ministry of Labour are investigating.
