An 18-year-old man is in custody following an assault investigation that led to Kingston police shutting down a west end street Wednesday morning.
Police say the incident started at about 3:30 a.m. when the suspect returned to his parent’s home on Glen Cairn Terrace in the city’s west end.
The suspect had a dispute with the parents and assaulted a parent with a weapon, according to police, who would only say the weapon was not a firearm.
The parent suffered minor injuries.
After the incident, the parents left the home and called police.
Police contained the scene and by Wednesday morning officers, including heavily armed members of the emergency response team were still at the scene.
The suspect finally surrendered at about 9:10 a.m.
Police have not confirmed what charges he may face.
