Grey skies are expected to dominate the weather picture for the next few days in Ottawa, with more moderate temperatures returning for the weekend, bringing with them some rain and flurries.

The mercury is expected to climb Friday to a late-afternoon high of -4 C, with a 40 per cent chance of flurries throughout the morning and early afternoon.

The overnight temperature should dip to about -10 C before soaring to 5 C Saturday, 4.1 degrees shy of the record high for Ottawa set on that date in 1996.

Environment Canada predicts a 60 per cent chance of showers on Saturday morning and afternoon, and a 40 per cent chance of rain or snow in the evening, with a low of -3 C.

Sunday’s forecast also calls for possible rain and/or flurries, with a high of 3 C and a low of -8 C.

The temperature will return to a more Nordic low of -21C on back-to-work Monday, with yet more grey brightened only by a 30 per cent chance of some white snow.
