The City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee today approved changes that could facilitate a planned research and development centre for new water rides in Ottawa.

The Committee approved a zoning amendment at 4139 Moodie Drive, clearing the way for Pro Slide Technology to locate its new facility at the site, between Barnsdale Road and Brophy Drive. The City has not yet received a development application for the facility, but Pro Slide Technology plans to use the site to design, prototype and test new water rides and emerging technologies.

A set of greenhouses between the villages of Metcalfe and Greely could soon see new life as a medical marijuana production facility after the Committee approved a zoning amendment for the site at 5130 and 5208 Ramsayville Road.

Working in phases, the applicant would convert and retrofit the existing 51,000 square metres of greenhouse space for this use and eventually build another 9,000 square metres of greenhouse space. The plan for phase one is to convert 5,000 square metres to produce medical marijuana. The applicant would also retrofit an existing accessory building to package and process the product.

The Committee approved a zoning amendment for the vacant site at 2403 Huntley Road, at the corner of Fallowfield Road, south of Stittsville. The amendment would permit a range of commercial uses, aimed at the traveling public and nearby residents. The site is constrained, however, by the quality of its water supply and the Committee approved only uses that do not rely on water for consumption. There is no specific proposal yet for development of the site.

Items approved at today’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting will go to City Council on Wednesday, February 14.

It was also announced that, starting in March, Agriculture and Rural Affair Committee reports will be published on ottawa.ca in two stages. All zoning and Official Plan amendment and Official Plan amendment reports will be available 10 days before the scheduled Committee meeting and any remaining reports will be added, as usual, seven days before the meeting. This change in procedure also affects publication of Planning Committee reports. The City will review the new procedure later in 2018, as part of a governance report to Council.
