Police are now investigating the death of an elderly woman who was already dead when she was taken to the hospital Saturday as a homicide.
Maria Desousa, 81, was brought to an unidentified Ottawa hospital at about 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 10.
Patrol officers responded to what was originally deemed a suspicious death but police said Tuesday morning that the major crime section had taken over the investigation.
Police said later that the death occurred at a residence on Parkrose Private in Orléans.
It is the sixth homicide this year.
