Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a 38-year-old from Quinte West after he allegedly struck an on-duty police officer on Jan. 3.
Police said the suspect’s vehicle had been pulled over for allegedly driving in a dangerous manner. When officers attempted to walk towards the vehicle, the driver sped off, allegedly striking one of the police officers.
The police officer was treated at hospital for minor leg injuries.
The fleeing vehicle managed to evade police due to poor road conditions and heavy traffic. It was finally found abandoned on the shoulder of the eastbound 401 just west of Napanee.
On Thursday, police arrested Ryan Millar, 38, of Quinte West in connection with the incident.
Millar was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and other charges.
He is to next appear on Feb. 15 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
