Ottawa Fire Services says a Kanata home has been rendered uninhabitable by smoke damage following a garage fire on Wednesday afternoon.
The owner of a semidetached house at 234 McElroy Dr. called firefighters at about 4:30 p.m. to report that smoke and fire were visible in the attached garage. Firefighters confirmed a working when they arrived. There were tires and other stored items in the garage, but no vehicle.
The two people who lived in the house evacuated safely, and no firefighters were injured in the blaze.
Ottawa Fire Services says the house will not be habitable due to smoke damage, but the attached unit is likely unaffected. The fire is under investigation and the cause has not been determined.
