Media are invited to watch ice blasting on the Rideau River on Sunday, February 18. Each year, the City undertakes ice-breaking operations near the Rideau Falls to alleviate possible spring flooding in flood-prone areas.
Explosive charges and amphibious excavator equipment will be used in various places along the river to break the ice and create open water.
Date: Sunday, February 18 (weather permitting)
Time: 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Location: Sussex Street Bridge (south facing)
There will be a designated area for media. Please stay safe by keeping a safe distance from the river.
Parking is available at 111 Sussex Drive on the north and south side curb lanes.
City spokespersons will be available to provide information about the ice-breaking operations.
