The Transit Commission today adopted a report recommending policy changes and amendments to the Transit By-law to align with how transit will operate when the O-Train Confederation Line comes into service.
The policy changes that the Commission is recommending to Council include:
Updates to terminology on rail operations, fares, accessibility, and service animals. Pending Council approval, the policy changes and amendments outlined in the report will take effect April 2, 2018.
The Transit Commission also recognized three OC Transpo employees who exemplified the values of the Transecure program during the months of September, October and November 2017 by demonstrating compassion and concern for individuals in need.
In September, an operator who witnessed a man having a seizure provided immediate assistance and called for medical help. The October recipient sprung into action and prevented a man from taking a six-year-old child without permission. In November, an operator found a six-year-old child walking alone in the rain and immediately stopped and sheltered the child on the bus until help arrived. Thanks to these operators, serious incidents were safely addressed and the individuals in need received the help and care they required.
