If red sky in the morning is a warning to sailors, Friday’s gloriously technicolour skies were downright ominous.
Environment Canada has warned that freezing rain is expected to arrive in the region near noon or early in the afternoon as a warm front sweeps in from the southwest.
No travel needed for this beauty

It should switch to plain old rain by the evening as the temperature rises above freezing but in the meantime watch for icy roads and sidewalks and be prepared that “there may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic,” the weather agency warned.
School buses in Ottawa and in outlying areas won’t be on the road Friday.

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority reported that all buses and vans are parked due to the freezing rain that would have affected the afternoon trip.
While schools are open, it’s up to parents to get kids there and home. The Renfrew County Joint Transportation Authority and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario made the same call with the latter adding, “wishing you safe travels.”
Friday began with the mercury at -7 C but the temperature is set to rise to a high of 3 C as snow beginning in late morning switches to periods of freezing rain and then rain. The rain should wrap up Friday night as the mercury drops to 0 C.
Saturday starts out cloudy but there should be some sun in mixed skies and a high of 4 C. There’s a 30 per cent chance of snow or rain Saturday night and a low of -5 C.
Periods of snow or rain – oh the suspense! – and a high of 6 C are expected for Sunday with clouds, a 30 per cent chance of more flurries or rain and a low of -4 C overnight.
Then we get a spell of dry and relatively balmy weather through next week with sunny or at least mixed skies, daily highs above zero and the only precipitation a mere 30 per cent risk of flurries on Wednesday.
