Hydro Ottawa is giving its customers a glimpse of how 15 of its workers are helping to get the lights back on in New York State after a powerful nor’easter knocked out parts of the electrical grid.
They headed to suburban Spring Valley ahead ice, snow, rain, hail and ocean storm surges expected to leave thousands in the dark, manager of distribution operations Jeff Bracken said.
“They’re anticipating some long days and some dirty weather but they’re more than ready for the challenge,” he said. “The phone rang and we answer the call and we’re going down to help our US friends.”
What’s known as “mutual aid” is an important element of the power grid and the utility, Orange & Rockland tweeted its thanks to Hydro Ottawa.
As of Monday, power had been restored to 87,000 households and crews were working around-the-clock to reconnect another 6,400.
