Ottawa transit riders will soon be able to buy and top up Presto cards at Shoppers Drug Mart locations starting next month.
The cards will be immediately available at Shoppers Drug Mart locations in York Region, just north of Toronto, the provincial government announced Monday afternoon.
Locations in Ottawa, Durham Region and Oakville will follow in April.
Mississauga and Brampton will see the cards in Shoppers Drug Marts in June, and Hamilton and Burlington in July, with more than half of the locations expected to be online by August.
A second phase will bring services to all remaining locations across all participating municipalities towards the end of the year.
Shoppers lists more than 50 stores in Ottawa on its website.
The city currently offers four OC Transpo customer service centres and three City of Ottawa client service centres where people can get Presto cards and load them with passes and funds. People can also order cards online or by phone and wait up to 10 days to receive them.
It’s still common to see lines at Ottawa service centres near the beginning of each month, with Presto users wanting to add a monthly pass or e-purse funds to their cards.
Customers can load their cards via the Presto website, but the online method can take up to 24 hours for Presto to register the transaction.
