A dog owner will appear in court next month after her Great Dane-labrador mix attacked a Shih Tzu in Vankleek Hill.
The little dog died of its injuries soon after.
Officers from Hawkesbury OPP responded to the call on Feb. 27 in the community located about 100 kilometres east of Ottawa.
They report that a woman was walking her two small dogs when they encountered another dog and owner.
“Investigation revealed that the owner had the large dog on a leash but because of the size and weight of the Great Dane, she lost control of the leash when the dog began running towards the smaller dogs and attacked the Shih Tzu,” OPP said.
The woman will appear in court in L’Orignal on April 5 to face a charge of failing to prevent her dog from biting or attacking a person or domestic animal under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act.
