Traffic impacts in Ottawa as a result of a special event and upcoming road projects – Week...

With a special event happening on the weekend, motorists are advised to plan their travel with this event, and its traffic impact, in mind:

• St. Patrick’s Parade – Due to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and 2 mile Run/Walk, the City is advising motorists to expect delays on Saturday, March 10 starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until about 1 p.m.
  
  The parking entrance to City Hall on Elgin Street will be open as usual; however, the Laurier Avenue entrance will be closed between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  
  The following roads will be closed:
  
  ○ Westbound lanes on Laurier Avenue between Nicholas Street and Elgin Street (7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  ○ Laurier Avenue from City Hall to Bank Street (8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  ○ Bank Street from Laurier Avenue to Marché Way (Lansdowne Park) – (10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  
  OC Transpo routes 5, 6, 7, 11 and 14 will be detoured starting at 10 a.m. until roads reopen. Customers can catch the affected routes along adjacent corridors at temporary bus stops. Please visit octranspo.com for more information and to plan your transit trip.
  
  Roads will reopen and bus routes will go back to normal as the parade passes.
  
  The parade will start at City Hall on Laurier Avenue, travel west on Laurier Avenue, turn left on Bank Street and end at Marché Way (Lansdowne Park).
  
  Businesses at Lansdowne will remain open throughout the parade and motorists can access the site either from Queen Elizabeth Driveway or, if approaching from the south along Bank Street, at Exhibition Way.

Upcoming road work projects will have the following impacts on Ottawa traffic:

• Elgin Street - Beginning Monday, March 12, traffic on Elgin Street, from McLeod Street to Waverley Street, will be reduced to one lane in each direction, to accommodate the first phase of Bell Canada infrastructure upgrades, which will last approximately eight weeks.
  
  ○ Parking will be prohibited on Elgin Street between McLeod Street and Waverley Street, and on Frank Street between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street.
  ○ The west side of the Frank Street and Elgin Street intersection will be closed to vehicles.
  ○ Frank Street will temporarily become a two-way road between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street. Access to Jack Purcell Lane will be maintained at all times.
  ○ The west side of the Gladstone Avenue and Elgin Street intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  ○ These restrictions will be in place until the first phase of Bell’s work is complete. Further traffic accommodations will be communicated for the other phases of Bell’s work, which will continue until fall 2018.

  During 2018, OC Transpo service will be maintained on Elgin Street during construction with some bus stop relocations. During the 8-week lane closure bus stops will be adjusted in the southbound direction near Elgin Street and Gladstone Avenue. Please be aware that some service delays may be expected because of this work. Please check OCTranspo.com for up-to-date route information.
  
• Gloucester Street – Beginning Monday, March 12, Gloucester Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic at its intersection with O’Connor Street, to accommodate a Hydro Ottawa project to rebuild a manhole on the southeast corner of the intersection.
  
  This lane reduction will be in place at all times for approximately three weeks. Additionally, a portion of one lane will be closed on O’Connor Street during off-peak periods only, for the duration of the work. The work will also impact the eastern crosswalk and the two-way bike lanes. Detours for pedestrians will be signed, and flag persons will direct bike traffic.
  
• Elgin/Catherine intersection – Traffic impacts will be in place near the Elgin and Catherine streets intersection beginning on Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. and will be completed by Wednesday, March 13 before peak morning traffic. This is required to complete watermain repairs. The following traffic impacts will be in place:
  
  ○ Southbound lanes on Elgin Street at Catherine Street will be reduced to one lane
  ○ Catherine Street at Elgin Street will be reduced to one lane
  ○ All turning movements will be maintained at the intersection
  ○ Northern and western crosswalks will be closed
