Traffic impacts in Ottawa as a result of ongoing road projects – Week of March 19

Ongoing road work projects will have the following impacts on Ottawa traffic:

• Elgin Street - Traffic on Elgin Street, from McLeod Street to Waverley Street, is currently reduced to one lane in each direction, to accommodate the first phase of Bell Canada infrastructure upgrades, which will last until early May.
  • Parking is prohibited on Elgin Street between McLeod Street and Waverley Street, and on Frank Street between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street.
  • The west side of the Frank Street and Elgin Street intersection is closed to vehicles.
  • Frank Street has temporarily become a two-way road between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street. Access to Jack Purcell Lane being maintained at all times.
  • The west side of the Gladstone Avenue and Elgin Street intersection is reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • These restrictions will be in place until the first phase of Bell’s work is complete. Further traffic accommodations will be communicated for the other phases of Bell’s work, which will continue until fall 2018.

During 2018, OC Transpo service will be maintained on Elgin Street during construction with some bus stop relocations. During the 7-week lane closure bus stops have been adjusted in the southbound direction near Elgin Street and Gladstone Avenue. Please be aware that some service delays may be expected because of this work. Please check OCTranspo.com for up-to-date route information.

• Gloucester Street –Gloucester Street is reduced to one lane of traffic at its intersection with O’Connor Street, to accommodate a Hydro Ottawa project to rebuild a manhole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

This lane reduction is in place at all times until the end of March. Additionally, a portion of one lane is closed on O’Connor Street during off-peak periods only, for the duration of the work. The work is also impacting the eastern crosswalk and the two-way bike lanes. Detours for pedestrians are signed, and flag persons are directing bike traffic.
