Ontario Provincial Police have charged a man after an allegedly stolen vehicle from Ottawa crashed during a police chase on Sunday.

The chase began in the late evening when Central Hastings OPP informed officers at the Bancroft detachment about a vehicle nearly crashing into police vehicles, and failing to stop, on Highway 62.

Police said they tracked the offending vehicle down, but were evaded while trying to get it to stop. An attempt to deflate the vehicle’s tire was unsuccessful.

Police said the vehicle then got into a single-vehicle crash and rolled onto the grounds of the Dungannon Recreation Centre, near the highway.

OPP officers tracked down the driver after he left the vehicle and allegedly fled from the scene.

The suspect was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released into police custody.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Ottawa earlier that day.

Dennis Cholet of Ottawa, 23, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by a peace officer and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Cholet was held for a bail hearing in Belleville the following day.
