Call it mindful motoring.
As kids and parents get back into their regular routines after March break, one local traffic officer took a new tack for safer roads.
“Drive with empathy,” tweeted Const. Jon Hall, who’s better known by his “nom de Twitter”: @TheBeardedCop. “How would you want people to drive in your community?”
Traffic officers’ collective patience was quickly tested Monday.
Sgt. Mark Gatien tweeted that the back-to-school enforcement blitz had nabbed a driver — a suspended driver, no less — going 73 km/h in a 40 zone.
“One would think if you were suspended you would keep the speeds down as to not draw attention to yourself,” Gatien said.
FYI : @OttawaPolice officers will be doing enforcement in school zones across #Ottawa as kids return to school this week. #ProjectInterlude pic.twitter.com/ZoljhWLHNm

On Smyth there are 3+ schools in the area with Hospitals. Please drive safely. Lots of high speeds here. Save yourself a ticket or even a trip to the hospital #BacktoSchool #otttraffic #ProjectInterlude pic.twitter.com/ujNUnFgr1Y
