A man in his 40s suffered critical chest injuries early Friday afternoon when he was struck and trapped beneath a car in Vanier, paramedics said.

Firefighters arriving at the crash shortly after noon were able to lift the vehicle off the victim using extrication equipment and paramedics immediately began care, the fire department said.

The man was in cardiac arrest but paramedics worked “aggressively” to resuscitate him. Resuscitation efforts included insertion of needles into the chest, paramedics reported.

He was critical on arrival to the hospital.

First responders were asking people to avoid the area of Durocher Street and Deschamps Avenue after the 12:20 p.m. crash.
