A construction worker was injured at a Claridge construction site Friday afternoon, the same site where a worker died two years ago.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service was called to the Icon condo building at the corner of Preston Street and Carling Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. A spokesperson said the man had been working on the seventh floor and was discovered injured on the fifth floor. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

On March 23, 2016, 25-year-old surveyor Olivier Bruneau was struck and killed by a falling slab of ice at the same site. Also, a Ministry of Labour inspector had visited the site six weeks before the fatal incident after another worker was struck by falling ice in February 2016. That worker was not reported injured.

Following Bruneau’s death, the ministry laid multiple charges against Claridge Homes, builder of the project, and against its employer, Gatineau subcontractor Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd. under the Occupational Heath and Safety Act.

While police attended the scene Friday afternoon, it is the Ministry of Labour that is investigating the incident.
