Motorists are being asked to avoid the area of Booth Street and Gladstone Avenue after firefighters battled a second-alarm blaze at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Ottawa fire said crews were investigating a haze inside the building. A fire was then declared.

The blaze was under control by 3:22 p.m. The fire reportedly began in a “small concrete structure,” and did not appear to have spread.

No injuries were reported.

Ottawa police said Booth is closed northbound between Gladstone and Raymond Street. Gladstone is also closed in both directions between Preston and Bell.

The blaze at the Catholic church comes several days before the Easter long weekend.

More to come.

Parishioners from St. Anthony’s church performed the Way of the Cross during Good Friday in Little Italy on April 14, 2017.

UPDATE: Working Fire confirmed at Booth & Gladstone. Streets will be closed momentarily. Find an alternate route. Crews entering building for fire attack. #ottnews #otttraffic https://t.co/CjxRxHGXqG
